Waaaay Back Wednesday....
meet my 13th Great-Grandfather
Francois Hotman
Early French Protestant Lawyer & Author
Born Paris 23 August 1524
son of Pierre Hotman, Counsellor Parliament and his noble wife Paulette de Marle
He came from a very influential family on both sides,
his mother was a direct descendant of (French) Kings.
Francois' parents were zealous Catholics
He had other ideas, it was an explosive bloody period of History
He became one of the foremost advocates of the Protestant Reformation and was a close friend of John Calvin. He was also an advisor at times to Queen Elizabeth I of England and Catherine de Medici.
Alienated by his parents and native country, his life often threatened,
he fled and spent his last days in Basel, Switzerland.
The Plague of 1582 took his wife, mother to his 7 children
He died at Basel, Switzerland February 12th, 1590
He is today one of the most revered and respected Authors of the Reformation, having published numerous works of great fame, notably The Franco Gallia.
and now for pictures slightly more recent...

And the mop head - aDORable!

Wow, I'm surprised I never heard of him. He was a big cheese in his day.
His book is listed on Project Gutenberg. I looked at it.
Oscar Wilde he wasn't.
