(Pfc. Steven Green)
Four U.S. soldiers charged with rape and murder

FORT CAMPBELL, Kentucky (CNN) -- Four U.S. soldiers accused of raping and killing a 14-year-old girl and slaying her sister and their parents will face courts-martial on murder charges, military officials say.

According to statements given at the hearing, the soldiers were drinking whiskey, playing cards and hitting golf balls when Green brought up the idea of going to a house near the checkpoint where they were stationed, to rape the girl.

Barker described Green as very persistent, Bierce testified. The statements said the five soldiers -- Green, Cortez, Barker, Spielman and Howard -- then changed into dark clothing and covered their faces, before going to the house.

According to Barker, Howard was the lookout and was given a radio to use if anyone approached, Bierce said. The four remaining soldiers then entered the home, at which point the statements from Barker and Cortez about what happened diverge, according to testimony.

Barker told investigators that Cortez pushed the 14-year-old girl to the floor and made "thrusting motions" as Barker held down her hands; then they switched positions, Bierce said.

Sometime during the assault, Barker said he heard gunshots come from the bedroom, where the girl's parents and sister had been taken, and an agitated Green emerged and said he had killed them, Bierce said.

I ask you this....
---
Am I the only one that smells a rat here?
-
There is just something way too orchestrated about it.
I can't imagine to what purpose "fabricating" this event would lend itself.
But given my distrust for the current administration.
I just can't believe it happened the way the events are being presented.

What do you think?
---
on to something a tad less tragic and depressing...

Mr. Meerkat looks concearned

Hey, I like your blog, just discovered it.

I'm confused, what do you think is being covered up? Are you implying that the Military planned the attack and then discovered they screwed up and are using these guys as scapegoats? I don't follow.

*faint*

You're one of those people who reinforces the rumor "big feet + big hands = big something else," aren't you. ;)

Just f*cked up in my opinion. What makes people want to do such things to each other? What???!!!

Hi Mr. Meerkat. You're a cutie! :)

m-filer: Honestly the whole story reeks. I am terribly suspicious that it's release is intentional and with purpose. Far less serious (given the fragile relationship we have with the middle east) events have been squashed in the past. Why let this through? Because the Bush Administration wishes it so.

It is difficult to understand exactly the motive, we are not privy (naturally) to many details hidden away behind closed doors and tightened lips.

Ok, so I should comment about how horrible the story at the beginning of your post really is...and it's true...our local tv station got DEATH threats for running a story about how one of the guys involved in that has local ties...the man's dad went off seriously.

On a brighter note. WOW and WOOF! You sure know how to tease your fans and admirers.

Yum Yum.

Smooches!

okay..that is disconcerting..I have not heard of this and am well connected with the soldiers.

I write for savethesoldiers.com

I am going to go with meerkat on this one because that sounds just...don't wanna think about it.

*kisses meerkat*

Of course. The U.S. Military will present no news unless it's fully cooked and fit for presentation. They haven't presented a news item for years without it being spun to death.
Consider the fabrication that constantly goes on in relation to the Iraq Agression.
Mr. Meerkat looks as if he needs a hug today.

I read about this yesterday and was very confused/concerned as well. I thought the whole story sounded very far fetched because it sounded like something off a movie like "Deliverance" than a bunch of military guys. I have served in the military (Air Force) and I have a hard time believing that a bunch of guys would just decide to go rape some girl and murder the family. 1 person maybe, but a bunch of guys? It seems very far from reality. There would have been a few in the group that would have protested. If I am wrong that is tragic but it just seems fishy! Government cover-up? I don't know, but I agree that the government would use a young military guy in a heartbeat if it meant covering up something they would be in trouble for. I wouldn't say its the first time!

I like the Mr. Meerkat

I was all set to discuss the first half of the post when I came across this installment of HNT (yikes!)...I completely forgot what I wanted to say :-)

Ok I didn't really forget, I just decided to keep quiet on this one.

I'm really here because I've been meaning to tell you about this artist I have been listening to A LOT lately. Her name is Vienna Teng. I saw her live and was blown away. I've thought of you while listening because I think you would really be interested in her music. Check her out, babe!

benji: The Bush administration is a nightmare, I keep waiting and hoping for some untainted source to come up with at least a grain of sand in the beach of corruption and underhanded bullshit that surrounds our president.

doug: yeap :)

patti: Isn't he tho? He's so damn cute!

daniel : Exactly my freeking point. Well said.

jimmi: I just don't know what to think, other than something smells pretty fishy. I don't believe it's a cover up as much as it somehow serves a purpose. As I said who can say exactlty what that is.

doghigh: Why are you staying silent? I would love your take, whether you agree with me or not is unimportant (obviously).

Polty: *hugs*

I don't believe the story is planted, or some government spin. I believe these solders went into that home, raped that kid, killed her family, and later tried to cover it up.

The military has lowered its standards in every way in order to attract more recruits, so they are willing to overlook a whole host of emotional and mental problems with the recruits. Hell they recruit gang members and skinheads now. They overlook untreated PTSD and send these men right back out there.

This isn't the first time Pfc. Steven Green was written about in the news. When he got kicked out for being seriously mental.

Newsweek even did a great article about what a scary fucker he was.

I'd imagine being in Iraq after multiple tours has a degrading effect on one's world view, and I can understand that, because you're shot at, always on edge for the next IED, and having to contend with a population that simply doesn't want you there... that such revenge might take place.

It's hard to imagine our solders doing something so extremely inhumane, but it is becoming more and more clear that these few solders orchestrated this murder for some sick revenge or payback, or whatever.

I think it's also important to note that the only reason we know about these killings at all, is because other marines saw this horror, and reported it. The higher ups resisted, until the local population became enraged, and demanded justice.

Our military is not allowed to target innocent civilians, and they are not allowed to murder either. They should be tried, and let the whole truth come out.

I think the story is terrible but true. There is BBC coverage of this and other atrocities that have happened and are continuing to happen out there on the BBC website and they are being committed by ALL sides.

I love Mr Meerkat and the video - I cannot believe that man was sooo drunk!

This country made a mistake by taking the National Guard and throwing them into situations abroad for which they were not prepared. They further compounded that error by pushing the regular army to its limits. The desperation of the US can be seen in its lowering of standards for military enlistment in order to make recruitment numbers, as well as the military's increase in demanded time served as well as its practice of taking soldiers known to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and dumping them back into a high stress situation.

Given the above, the crimes mentioned in your posting seem inevitable. I think in the coming months and years, you will discover more atrocities.
